Climeworks Solutions Fast-Track Carbon Removal

Climeworks extends its DAC offering with Climeworks Solutions – holistic carbon removal portfolios tailored to the individual needs of different companies.

Climeworks Solutions Fast-Track Carbon Removal

Climeworks AG, a Swiss company specializing in direct air capture (DAC) technology, today introduced a new Climeworks Solutions portfolio set that employs both engineered and nature-based approaches to removing CO? from the atmosphere.

A welcome addition to the existing Climeworks carbon removal service focused on direct air capture, Climeworks Solutions offers flexible, tailored packages sourced and managed by Climeworks. The company’s science and sourcing teams consider only those third-party solutions that meet Climeworks’ quality standards and have been independently verified for the portfolios.

“In fighting climate change we have to embrace all solutions, engineered and nature-based. Climeworks’ new offering will be in line with climate science, meeting the highest quality standards, integrity, and trust.”

Tom Crowther, professor of ecology at ETH Zurich

The new offering responds to the growing demand for accelerated ESG strategies. The firm claims nearly 30 clients are already in negotiations to try out the new tailored portfolios. Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling is the first to benefit from the new offering within its fresh 12-year agreement. The company plans?to achieve absolute emission reductions in line with the Paris Agreement goals by 2032.

“Climeworks is an essential partner in the tangible action Breitling is taking as a ‘Squad on a Mission to do Better’. Addressing climate change in our sphere of influence is a crucial step in achieving net zero globally.”

Georges Kern, CEO of Breitling

Currently, an estimated 2 billion tons of CO2 are captured and locked up annually. However, most of these emissions are neutralized by conventional carbon dioxide removal (CDR) methods. Only a small amount, equivalent to 30 minutes of emissions a year, comes from environmental innovations like direct air capture (DAC), bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) and ocean alkalinization.

Last year, Project Cypress by Battelle and clean technology developers Climeworks and Heirloom received Notification of Selection from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Regional Direct Air Capture (DAC) Hubs program to advance the commercialization of Direct Air Capture and Storage (DAC+S) in the U.S. This innovative technology is powered by renewable energy that will verifiably remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store the captured CO2 underground.
